Kevin M. Shertz, AIA Wins Design Excellence Award
ANNAPOLIS, MD - Kevin M. Shertz, AIA, was awarded a 2007 Citation for Architectural Excellence at the AIA Chesapeake Bay Chapter Design Gala on December 1st. The award was presented for Hollywood Beach House, a new single family residence located in Chesapeake City, MD.
"I'm thrilled to receive this recognition," Mr. Shertz remarked. "It's a fantastic honor to receive an award from a jury of my peers after only two years of having a solo practice. I also see it as a validation for my early clients, who took a leap of faith and engaged my services as a new business with an unknown track record. I'm very thankful for their trust and friendship."
Of the residence itself, Shertz said, "The project was a lot of fun to work on... I had an adventurous client who shared my philosophy that a well-designed space doesn't need to be gargantuan, and he was looking to live in a house that reflected his deep family history in Cecil County. The house was designed as though it had been built over an extended period of time. It included details such as a timber-framed wing, and I used different types of windows and siding to create spaces with their own unique character."
